Announcements / News

Announcements are regular blog articles (Administration → Texts → Blog articles) grouped into
a named “blog” so you can tell your news apart from other article content. Assigning an article to
the reserved News blog also makes it eligible to appear on your front page.

Creating an announcement

  1. Go to Administration → Texts → Blog articles → New.
  2. Fill in the Title, Content, and optionally an image.
  3. Under Blog, either pick an existing blog from the list, or choose + Add new blog and
type News (this exact name, regardless of your interface language - see “Multiple blogs”
below for why). Leaving it unset keeps the article in the unassigned, generic blog pool, exactly
    like before this feature existed.
  4. Optionally set an Expires at date — once that date has passed, the article automatically
drops off your front page (it stays visible in the full articles list).
  5. Save.

Showing announcements on your front page

By default the front page doesn’t show any announcements, even if you have articles in the
News blog. To turn it on:

  1. Go to Administration → School settings → Appearance.
  2. Enable “Show announcements card-strip on front page”.
  3. Save.

Once enabled, a strip of your latest News articles appears further down the front page (below the
carousel/tiles, above the course categories), each with a “Read more” link and a “View all
announcements” link to the full list. A second setting, “Announcement card style”, controls how
it looks:

  • With picture (default) — larger cards, one image + title + teaser each, 3 per row.
  • Compact — no picture, smaller title and text, up to 6 narrower cards per row.

If you have no articles in the News blog yet, the section simply doesn’t appear — turning the
setting on early, before you’ve written anything, is safe.

The short summary shown on each card

Each card shows a short teaser. If you fill in the SEO description field on the article, that
text is used verbatim. If you leave it blank, the teaser is automatically generated from the
beginning of your article’s content.

Scheduling

  • A Published at date in the future keeps the article out of both your front page and the full
articles list until that date arrives.
  • An Expires at date only affects the front page — the article always remains visible in the
    full articles list.

Multiple blogs

You are not limited to a single “News” blog — you can create as many named blogs as you like (e.g.
“News” and a separate “Team blog”) and browse each one separately on the public articles page via
the blog switcher in the sidebar. Only the blog literally named News (case-insensitive, but not
translated - “Uutiset” or “Nyheter” would create a different blog) is eligible for the front
page, since the front page always looks for that one specific blog regardless of your own
interface language.
